Style Icons

I was born in 1981. If you came up during this time, you know there were three major figures we considered our style gurus:

Blossom

I remember, in primary school, someone once told me I looked like Blossom. I considered taking my life that day. While Blossom was cool and all, she wasn’t exactly a looker. But , she did inspire me to start my own mean ass hat collection. She wore baggy turtle necks with brooches and skirts with weird colored tights. Even though her dad had a mullet, she still had her cool, ditzy friend Six and her brother was hot. If you didn’t want to be Blossom when you were a kid you were straight up lying to yourself.

Angela Chase

In the mid-90s, you couldn’t tell me I wasn’t Angela Chase. That girl was living my life! I too, happened to be going through my grunge phase at the time. I wore all those weird outfits. I was all about the baggy sweaters with plaid skirts and Doc Martins. And as much as I loved Angela, I would have happily rammed my Doc Martins up her ass for a chance to make out with Jordan Catalano. *swoon*

Denise Huxtable

Denise was the coolest of the Cosby kids (well, she was kinda tied with Theo). Her hippie, boho chic rocked my world. The Cosby Show was on Sunday nights when I was a kid and there reached a point where I was tuning in purely to see what she was wearing. So that period of time where she went away and came back with that navy dude was a wardrobe nightmare for me.

Without these influences, I may never have grown into the international fashion glamazon I am today.

So, who were your style icons when you were growing up?
