Introducing…Team Bangs on the Run
Ladies and Gentlemen, allow me to introduce you to the fabulous Team Bangs on the Run.
Together, there are 20 of us (two not pictured) set to take on the Paris Half Marathon on March 6th 2011 and do it with style.
In the run up to my first half marathon back in October, I swore it would be a one time thing for me. No more running of stupid distances after I did that one half mara. No ma’am. Not this one. I planned on happily going back to my high heeled, excessive-perspiration free existence, thankyouverymuch. The only problem is, I kinda loved the training and had an absolute blast doing the race. So, the first thing I did when I got back was sign up for the Paris Half Marathon.
But where’s the fun in doing it alone? So, I put a call out on Twitter. Which lovely ladies would like to do the Paris Half Marathon with me? We can make a weekend of it – shopping, eating and a little bit of running at the end? Well, within 24 hours, I had 19 hot chicas ready to brave it with me.
And Team Bangs on the Run was born!
The majority of us have never met in real life. We’re dotted all over the country from Glasgow to London but have already formed an incredible bond through our tweets of encouragement to each other. Some are more experienced runners, some are newbies and some, like myself, have no clue what they’re doing. But we’ve registered for the race and put it out there into the universe – there’s no backing out now!
The best part is, we’ll be doing it for charity – and a pretty fabulous one at that. We’re running for Refuge, who do amazing work providing emergency accommodation for women and children escaping domestic violence. As a group of women, we want to raise awareness and funds for these inspirational women who could use our support.
