PUMA YARD: The Brick Lane Summer Hangout

As a resident of East London, it’s been hard to avoid the buzz about PUMA YARD.  The past few weeks I’ve seen PUMA YARD murals popping up all over Shoreditch. My curiosity was peaked. What was this mysterious YARD they were referring to? Where was it? And most importantly, when could I go? Anticipation built and then finally, all was revealed as it opened its doors on Friday. So, I took a stroll down Brick Lane to the Old Truman Brewery to get a slice of this YARD action.

Within minutes of being in there I had decided that yes, in fact, I would like to move in. Seriously, I don’t have a lot of stuff – it’d only take me a couple of hours to get situated. Ping Pong and Pool tables in the reception area, a photo booth with fun, oversized PUMA accessories to pose with, a DJ spinning a pretty sweet selection – it’s kinda like to coolest, chillest house party on your block.

There’s a Bob Marley tribute wall, a ‘Listening Wall’ full of PUMA sneakers which, if you link a shoe up to headphones, will play you a popular reggae song from a particular decade. The chilled reggae  permeates throughout the space.

Wander outside (your nose will lead you there as the smell of jerk chicken is too intoxicating to ignore) and grab some chicken, rice, plantain and a drink and chill out in the sand pit area where you can sit in a row boat and have a natter (and frankly, I don’t know about you, but that’s my preferred way to dine – row boat in a sand pit or BUST!)

Then walk on through to another outdoor section and chill out on the grass. Perhaps wile away the time with a giant game of Connect 4 (it’s literally a very large set), or maybe dominoes are more your thing. If you’re feeling fit, challenge a friend to a sprint on the track and see how fast you can Bolt. There’s a PUMA shop out there too, should you feel the need to get all diva and have an outfit change.

There’s so much going on there over the next few weeks, so much great music especially, that I really feel I have no choice but to move in. I don’t want to miss a beat. If you like environments that fuse sport, music and lifestyle seamlessly to create a pretty badass Jamaican-themed hang out for a few weeks of summer, you should probably get yourself down there too. PUMA YARD is definitely bringing the heat to Brick Lane.
