Where to Hang Out During the Olympics

Unless you live under a rock, you know there’s a pretty big sporting event taking over East London for the next few weeks. I live in Stratford, so I’m right slap bang in the middle of it all, within spitting distance of the stadium. I’ve watched the area change so rapidly over the past year and a half, it is actually mind blowing. New shops, buildings and green areas are popping up all over the gaff. So, if any of you happen to be down East London way, I thought I’d pass on a new found hidden gem I stumbled across a couple of months back.

It’s pretty easy to just walk straight past Sugarhouse Studios if you don’t know it’s there. Wedged on a strip of Stratford High Street between the Greenway and Bow roundabout, it’s not the kind of place you’d just casually stumble across. This old warehouse has been converted into a creative space by Assemble, the people behind the Folly For a Flyover space in Hackney last year.

It’s pretty bare bones, but it’s a lovely open space, light and airy. Free wifi (it has become my temporary office) and a ping pong table can keep you busy. They’ve also built a little cinema in there and screen old films. But the best part about this place is the incredible food. Sugarhouse Studios is also a pizzeria and I kid you not when I say it has the best pizzas I’ve ever tasted, outside of Italy. And get this, the most expensive one is £6. A Margherita is £4! And these ain’t no piddly pizzas – they’re full sized, fill your belly pizzas. It’s rare you can find a lunchtime spot in London where you can eat for a fiver.

So, if you happen to be down this way, definitely check it out. A great space for creatives to hang and you’re right in the thick of all the Olympic action. Double win!
