Happy International Womens Day
All my layyyydeeeeezzzzz!
Today we celebrate how far we’ve come and reflect on how much further there is to go.
I’m surrounded by incredible women and have been lucky enough to meet women along my journey who have given me their time, energy and insight, which has in small or life changing way, contributed to who I am and who I’m becoming.
My mother and grandmothers (one no longer with us, one still kicking ass) have been a constant source of strength – these towering beacons of power who have wrapped me up in love, taught me, guided me and shown me the way simply through living their lives day to day in an inspiring way. You can’t move a mountain every day but these women have, chipped away at life, overcome hurdles, headed up their families and paved the way for me to live my life the way I do. I show them gratitude daily but on days like today, I reflect on it more.
In my own way, I try to do what I can for my fellow chicas. Through my projects like Team Bangs on the Run, my aim has always been to bond us together and lift us up, to empower us to do the best we can in every area of our lives and know there’s a support system of fellow sisters there to encourage us along the way. It’s not much, but I hope in some small way it helps.
Thank you, thank you, thank you a million times over to the women who’ve come before me, who’ve smashed through barriers, defied convention, protested, nurtured families and kicked ass. Your strength enables us to be living incredible lives now. And thank you to all of you who read this, who encourage and inspire me daily, most of whom I’ve never even met – your support truly blows my mind and I’m so glad you’re part of my journey.
Celebrate the women in your life today. Tell me in the comments the women who’ve inspired you most – let’s tell their stories.
Oh, and the pic above is of badass numero uno, Mama Bangs and me when I was a young ‘un.
