Here’s a video I made of my experience out in San Francisco doing the Nike Women’s Marathon. You can read my written account of it here. Everyone should run a marathon at some point in their life – yeah, I said it!

Sunday 25th September, what an epic day. The day months of hard work paid off for my Team Bangs on the Run divas as we took to the streets of Greenwich to run 13.1 miles in the Run to the Beat Powered by Nike+ Half Marathon. It was an emotion-filled day that I’m sure each Team Bangs member will remember forever.

It’s here already. Myself and my badass team of chicas, Team Bangs on the Run 2, will be running 13.1 miles of awesomeness this Sunday at the Run to the Beat half marathon. Back in June, I selected this team to come on this journey with me. And boy, what a team and what a journey it’s been!

So, you’ve identified that you want to get fitter, leaner, meaner, more badass. But what to do? That gym membership costs a fortune and you have to put up with the dudes who lift weighs while drooling over themselves in the mirror – always uncomfortable. Tearing friends away from their Wii Fit/Twitter/significant others/booze to play any sort of team sport is damn near impossible. So what’s left? Running! But where do you start? Fear not amigos, I’m here to give you some tips.

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you will no doubt have heard all about the badass team of chicas I’ve got together to do the Nike Run to the Beat half marathon. That’s right, Team Bangs on the Run 2 are hardcore, hardworking, hardass, incredible, inspirational, motivating MACHINES! They are training so hard and are all showing incredible grit and team spirit. As the leader of the crew, I’m proud to be involved and mentor them as much as I can on this journey. For all their hard work, they deserve a treat. Nike have been wonderful in providing us with kit and support so we look super fly throughout our training and I’ve arranged with them for one of the girls to get their own pair of customised Nike iD trainers so they can truly set the style stakes high on race day. Ten of the girls have designed trainers below, leave a comment saying which is your favourite and that lucky lady will get to have those made. What are you waiting for? Go vote!

It’s that time people. Time to start training to run a half marathon and cross the finish line in style. I know what you’re thinking though: you’re unmotivated, you don’t think you can do it, you don’t want to do it alone. Well, hows about you join a team of badass chicks who will support, guide and motivate you the whole way through? Join Team Bangs on the Run!
You may remember, I put together a team of 20 girls to run the Paris Half Marathon. We had a blast during training and on race day and throughout the whole thing I had ladies contacting from all over wanting to join the team. So, this time around, I’m looking for 13 girls to run the Nike+ Run to the Beat Half Marathon with me in London on September 25th. Want to be involved? Details below:

Last week I had the pleasure of meeting, interviewing and running with the legend that is Ms Paula Radcliffe. (Notes on running with Paula: turns out, she’s a bit fast). Just a few days before the London Marathon, she spoke to a crowd at Nike Town at Oxford Circus about her own return to running after having a baby (which is why she gave Sunday’s Virgin London Marathon a miss), how she keeps going through hard runs and her plans for 2012. Afterwards, I got a few minutes with her for a private chat. Check out what she had to say below:

On Monday night I was lucky enough to attend the launch of the new Nike GPS Sportswatch powered by Tom Tom at the Nike Running store in Covent Garden. It just so happened that Olympic Gold medalist, the legendary Carl Lewis and 400m hurdler and British 2012 hopeful Perri Shakes Drayton were there for a little question and answer session. Lovely vibes all round, with of course, the added distraction of how ridiculously good Carl Lewis still looks. Damn him!
The two athletes shared their thoughts on training, race days, preparation, mentality and everything in between. The audience of 50 or so people was made up of Nike Plus users and everyone was really appreciative to hear the perspective and advice from the professionals.
I grabbed a few minutes with Perri after the Q & A. Considering all eyes are on her, with hopes of her nabbing a medal in 2012, this 22 year old, Brunel University student is incredibly down to earth, taking it all in her stride (there’s a pun in here somewhere about overcoming hurdles, but I’ll leave it alone). In fact, She’s not even thinking about the Olympics right now – she’s got a World Championship to get out the way this year first, so that’s where her focus lies.
We discussed the variety in her training – weights being something she doesn’t enjoy, but, she says ‘I think about my competitors. If they’re doing it, if this is what it takes, I have to do it.’ She also said when she has really hard training sessions and her legs are killing her and it hurts to even sit down, she wonders ‘why am I doing this to myself?’ – but she knows that if she doesn’t train, she’ll feel bad.
Coming off the back of running the Paris Half Marathon, it was really great to speak to someone as dedicated and focused as Perri – while I may never be on her level, she’s an inspiration to us all.
The Nike Plus GPS Sportswatch will be available in stores in April.
