Post-Christmas everyone goes a little nuts for the sales. I’m not sure who these people are who start lining up at 2am for the Next sale, but I don’t think I could ever be one of them. I am by no means knocking the urge to get a bargain, but I do think that people often forget how to shop smart at these times. All too often, any thoughts of quality, fit and things that actually suit you go out the window in favour of bagging the most amount of stuff for the least amount of wonga. In these times of instant gratification, I vote we slow down a bit, put some pride and time back into our shopping experience and do it right.

I cannot wear my everyday clothes at home. Can’t do it. It’s a ritual of mine, when I get home, jewelry comes off, if my hair’s been down all day, I put it up (& vice versa) and I strip off my outfit in favour of loungewear. I love me some loungewear! The home is about comfort. It’s where we can take off our armour of power suits and pointy-toed shoes and just relax. Of course, coming into the winter months, I’m choosing my loungewear based on what will keep me warmest.

Probably since the camera was first invented, there was some woman saying ‘Wait! Let me just retouch my lippy!’ before allowing the shot to be taken. And so, through the ages, women have shied away from the lens and a new study by Photobox confirms that the laydeez are just not fans of the snapshot. So, what are the underlying reasons why?

Do you do a lot of web-lusting? I do. Web-lusting is the term I use to describe the hours I spend online lusting after various things, mainly clothes and accessories (lately, particularly Alexander McQueen Jewellery). I go on total Pinterest binges – pinning everything in sight, adding them to my ‘want’ list. The imaginary lifestyle I’ve got going on in the land of Pinterest is all the way awesome. The subject of many-a-pin recently has been Farfetch.com – you know, the site that brings together all the world’s best boutiques and lets you shop all the awesomeness under one roof? Yeah, that one.

‘Tis the season to be jolly and give stuff away!
With all the time we get off at Christmas, it’s a great time to cosy up by the fire with a new book. Galaxy, the makers of the lovely chocolate, are doing the One Million Book Giveaway. If you buy one of their promotional bars of chocolate, you could be in with a chance of winning one of five top best sellers by entering the code at www.galaxybookclub.co.uk.
I’m just started reading Freedom by Jonathan Franzen, which is about a family at war with itself. I’m only a little way in, but am already a big fan of Franzen’s style and am very intrigued to see how these characters’ stories unfold.
In the spirit of giving, I have a couple of best selling books to give away to help you chillax during the holidays. Woo hoo! Two winners will receive a copy of either Knots & Crosses by Ian Rankin or The Truth About Melody Brown by Lisa Jewell and a bar of Galaxy chocolate each.
Simply leave me a comment telling me what your favourite book is and you’re in with a chance to win. Simples!
Competition closes at 6pm this Sunday (December 26th) and I’ll announce the winners on Monday.
Good luck and happy reading!
