I was fourteen when I started my period. I was late to the party, being the last among my girlfriends to get this ultimate gift of womanhood. I remember being impatient, really wanting it to finally arrive so I could be part of those bonding sessions with the other girls about cramps and hot water bottles and how to get out of PE.

So remember last week, I told you I was part of a project with American Express to find some hidden gems in London ’cause most of us walk around our cities on ‘urban autopilot’? And then American Express took all these places recommended by some pretty hip bloggers (myself included) and made an awesome map so you can check these places out for yourself? Yeah, well here comes the third and final piece of the puzzle. To bring all this to life, American Express brought on badass photographer extraordinaire, Nick Knight, to snap shots off all the recommended places. Over the course of the day, he captured images of hidden inspiration he sees in the places he passes every day. These were then shared in real time on Twitter via @AmexUK and the #mysecretcity hashtag.

One great thing about having a dog and recently moving to be closer to work, is that I walk more. I walk a lot. I’m now on my feet an average of 6-8 miles a day (according to my fancy fitness tracker, the Misfit Shine). I am seeing more of the beauty that is London and it’s been quite the eye opener. It’s really made me realise how much I wasn’t paying attention to before. It turns out, I’m not alone. According to research recently done by American Express, tons of us are operating on ‘urban autopilot’

It’s no secret that I enjoy a good workout (HASHTAG UNDERSTATMENT) and am always looking not only for fun and interesting ways to work out, but also great places to do so. As the summer approaches, I definitely tend to do a lot more of my workouts outdoors.
I was approached recently by American Express who are putting together a map of London’s top inspirational spaces. So often we walk around our own city in a daze – get stuck in the daily grind of our regular journeys (go to work, go home), we forget that there’s so much exciting stuff going on. So when we have a little holiday time to spare, sometimes it’s really worth sidelining a foreign getaway and just exploring some hidden gems in your own city. American Express asked for my most inspirational fitness spots in London to add to their map.
Check out my current best places to work out in lovely ol’ London town.

A few week’s ago, as part of Activia’s ‘Feel Good From Within’ campaign, I had the pleasure of meeting their spokesperson, the most lovely Gok Wan.
We had tea and cake and spent the afternoon chatting about what makes us feel good (I’m going on record now and saying pretty much all afternoons should go like that).
I’ve always thought Gok came across as a lovely bloke on TV and in person, he doesn’t disappoint at all. He’d done his research on each of the bloggers there and chatted to us like he really knew us. When we got down to the business of discussing feeling good, it was clear Gok really is passionate about helping people feel their best. It’s hard not to like a guy whose personal mission statement seems to be ‘spread the happy!’

I’m kinda loving these Activia ‘Feel Good From Within’ video. There are lots of reasons why.
Firstly, dancing. I love a good boogie and as a fan of musicals, it’s pretty much my dream that people will spontaneously dance in the streets, so these videos seem like a pretty good start.

I don’t know about you, but I feel mighty good today. Had a great workout this morning, a lovely walk with my pup and am being super productive work wise. Not to shabby for a Monday. Speaking of feeling good, Activia are currently doing a campaign around that very notion and since I like to feel good (I mean, duh, who doesn’t?!), that’s something I can totally get behind. This vid, for example, spoke to me because I’m quite partial to a bus stop boogie myself and I wish more people would be open to allowing their good vibes to flow freely. If you’re flying high today, don’t hold back, let that toe tapping develop into a fully choreographed dance routine a la West Side Story if needs be – let it out!
I’ll be doing a couple of things with Activia over the coming weeks, centred around feeling good – and I do believe there will be some boogying involved. Stay tuned.

Post-Christmas everyone goes a little nuts for the sales. I’m not sure who these people are who start lining up at 2am for the Next sale, but I don’t think I could ever be one of them. I am by no means knocking the urge to get a bargain, but I do think that people often forget how to shop smart at these times. All too often, any thoughts of quality, fit and things that actually suit you go out the window in favour of bagging the most amount of stuff for the least amount of wonga. In these times of instant gratification, I vote we slow down a bit, put some pride and time back into our shopping experience and do it right.

I cannot wear my everyday clothes at home. Can’t do it. It’s a ritual of mine, when I get home, jewelry comes off, if my hair’s been down all day, I put it up (& vice versa) and I strip off my outfit in favour of loungewear. I love me some loungewear! The home is about comfort. It’s where we can take off our armour of power suits and pointy-toed shoes and just relax. Of course, coming into the winter months, I’m choosing my loungewear based on what will keep me warmest.

Probably since the camera was first invented, there was some woman saying ‘Wait! Let me just retouch my lippy!’ before allowing the shot to be taken. And so, through the ages, women have shied away from the lens and a new study by Photobox confirms that the laydeez are just not fans of the snapshot. So, what are the underlying reasons why?
